I’m not big on superlatives and I find it hard to believe I’m about to write this, but Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is the funniest film comedy I’ve seen all year. By a long shot.

Now I know that sounds strange. And before you ask, no I’m not a Weird Al superfan, although I like him well enough. (Who doesn’t?) I’ve never seen (or had much urge to see) his previous attempt at film stardom with UHF, although I have heard relatively good things about it over the years.

And yet, I say it again – Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is absolutely hysterical.

As you may get from the title, it is a takeoff on the traditional rock and roll bio pics, although it is very, very loosely based on the life of Yankovic. Or, as it is described online: “The unexaggerated true story about the greatest musician of our time. From a conventional upbringing where playing the accordion was a sin, ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic rebels and makes his dream of changing the words to world-renowned songs come true. An instant success and sex symbol, Al lives an excessive lifestyle and pursues an infamous romance that nearly destroys him.”

This deviation from pure fact is what makes it so funny. Imagining the goofy, good-natured, teetotaling novelty singer Yankovic as a surly drunken rock star is comedy gold. And imagining a world where a man can conquer the rock charts with a Hawaiian shirt, an accordion and a dream – to make up funny words to other people’s songs – is just so weird that it can only be true. Or true-ish.

I mean come on, just the idea alone of Daniel Radcliffe (aka Harry Potter) playing Weird Al is meta enough to blow your mind. And he does a damned good job of it, too.

And I haven’t even mentioned the Pablo Escobar and Madonna connections, nor when (according to Weird), Michael Jackson plagiarized Al’s magnum opus.

It’s silly, it’s stupid and it’s undeniably funny.

Weird Al himself even has a bit part as one of the Scotti Brothers, the record label owners who signed him and released his early records. (Other Scotti Bros. acts which became marginal stars included Survivor, John Paul Young, John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band and Leif Garrett.)

One slight caveat... Weird: The Al Yankovic story was made as an original production for the new streaming machine Roku, which very few people have, so it may take some work to track the movie down. You can stream it on Roku’s website as well. More to the point, having seen it on a big screen at the Philadelphia Film Festival with a hysterical crowd (and Weird Al in the house), I realize that a theater is the way that it should be seen. (With or without Weird Al.) Weird is a film that works a lot better as a community experience than it would sitting alone watching it at home. They really should have given it a brief theatrical release.

But see it any way that you can. It’s that funny.

I’m currently taking requests / asks for headcanons [ can be either NSFW or just in general or a specific idea ] or fluff/filth Alphabet letters. These are the only requests I plan on taking. If you send me prompts / one shot ideas.. I won’t do them, sorry.

So.. Here’s the thing.. I’ve decided that I’m going to be taking 3 kinds of requests. Those are as follows: Headcanons { filthy, fluffy or themed specifically at your choosing }, fluffy alphabet and filthy alphabet letters. These are the only kinds of request I answer so don’t send me prompts / one shot requests or ideas unless I specifically say otherwise.

Bearing the above in mind, I have some guidelines.

I’m only accepting headcanons (nsfw / fluff / specific theme &/or reader), fluffy or filthy alphabet letters. If you send me one shot ideas or prompts, I’m going to delete them because I don’t do one-shots.

One character per ask. I don’t care how many asks you send. But I ask that you only send one character per ask because that makes things a lot more simple for me.

You can send up to 4 letters in each ask if you’re asking for either version of the alphabet. Be sure to let me know whether you want filth or fluff or a mix of both. IE, you could send me something like this; character name - a, b {filth} & j v {fluff}. I’m not saying your ask has to look exactly like this but it does need to clearly state which version you’re asking for. The format I just did above was just the easiest way that came to mind for me.

The more precise you are with the headcanon requests you send, the better I can tailor them to you. If you just want an overall NSFW headcanon or overall fluff, that’s totally fine. But if you want a specific scenario ( friends to lovers, date night, weddings, the sky is the limit here) you need to tell me that. The same goes for if you want a specific reader (POC, plus size, sick, shy, virgin, imprint, etc) then I need to know that. It’s like I said.. The more specifics you give me, that’s more I have to work from.

As far as headcanons go, the things I won’t write are rape, incest / huge age gaps between reader / character. I’ll only write abuse if someone is getting their just desserts at the hands of character on readers behalf. Any asks containing rape / incest / huge age gaps are going to be deleted.

All asks must come to my inbox. I don’t take requests through DM or in comments on a post. If it helps, my anon is on, so you can request to your hearts content.

If the ask box is closed, this means I’m currently not taking headcanon or fluff/filth alphabet requests. This will also be noted on my blog bio and possibly a post stating why/for how long. There's nothing quite like strings to make a song soar. We played "Cuando Bailamos" (which I co-wrote with the late great Larry Wayne Clark) with a live string quartet to mark the release of my "Simply Love" album in summer 2013. This blast-from-the-past performance features the same string quartet that played on the album: David Burham, Lisa McWhorter, Clark Spencer, and Dale Bradley (also featuring amazing rhythm section Matt Treder, Mark Schneider, and Brian West) ... And, it just so happens that this weekend, I will be playing this song with a FULL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA in Newport, OR! people have been coming to the dropship for years to hear a little music and get a few drinks. local bands play every weekend, and once in a while someone important will swing by when they’ve got an extra night in the city. but everyone knows that some of the greats had their start here and everyone who takes the stage hopes to be the next legend.  there’s one band which is starting too look like they might be able to make their dreams a reality. with a record label or two approaching them and mounting followers on social media the group is starting to take off. the only question is: will they be able to handle everything that comes along with success? * The music moves you is a group verse centering around a fictional bad and will be plot based. The nature of the group will evolve based on interest. For now it will consist of one main band and characters connected to the members but should there be enough interest more may be added.

Other Info: Grew up in Boise, Idaho, and moved to Idaho Falls mainly for the scenery and big game hunting to occupy his time. It was a hobby of his passed on by his dad. He’s traveled to several different places in the States and loves to travel, but it can become increasingly overwhelming to him being around so many people in overly populated areas, so he tends to stick to underlie populated areas for his own benefit.

Fun Facts:

He likes to stalk his victim for a little bit to be sure he can get them alone, so during the twilight hours, he will watch them. When it’s dark out, that’s when he can take cover in the shadows and take his victims. He is a very curious man and loves to watch people even though he has a ‘type’, so to speak. 

His mask that he wears to hide his identity is made of human bone that he's carved and worked on for years. It is supposed to resemble that of a hollow tree and a skeleton with sunken eyes, and he tries to capture the look of death. The face that people see before they die should haunt them in the afterlife. 

Depending on who he's going after while he's on that downtime of stalking his victim, he creates a personal playlist for said victim for when he kills them. 

He feels he is providing justice when he kills. He will murder those who he sees in his mind’s eye as a ‘flame’, which is a complicated matter. He has always had a way of reading people’s auras even though it was a twisted sort of way, and can immediately tell how you are as a person just by glancing at you and reading your aura. The people he is most willing to murder would be those whose auras are ‘enflamed’, which he feels are the scum of the earth and he needs to extinguish. Do not confuse him with a vigilante, his aura reading is twisted and he only sees the ‘enflamed’ as bad, but they could even turn out to be the best person in the world. 

He doesn’t actually drink anything alcoholic, he tends to stay away from it only because it reminds him how badly it made his father act toward him, so he keeps to other drinks.

Bio:

Spencer was an only child and had almost died when he was born.  His mother, Camila, had an untreated mental illness for years and she was pregnant with him while taking all sorts of medication, it messed them both up badly. Her husband, Tobias, had tried to help her as much as he could without making her take more meds until she had too much and pushed herself over the edge. She attempted suicide while 8 ½ months pregnant with Spencer and she was found not long after. He was saved though, unlike his mother. He never speaks of her considering he didn’t know her, but he blames her for the way he feels about himself. His father blames him for her untimely death, sure that if she would have not gotten pregnant, she would still be with him.

Through his years, his father would hit him, berate him, treat him like his own personal little pet. He would make him do whatever Tobias didn’t want to do, but Spencer learned at a young age to watch out for himself because of this treatment. When he was old enough, Tobias took his son out hunting for the first time and taught him everything he needed to know about surviving out in the wild, which helped out Spencer and spelled out Tobias’s future. 

The first kill was sloppy and barely had any form, but his mind always was on the backburner about killing. His first kill was actually his father. Tobias had grown fond of drinking before and after work, so he would come home already looking for an excuse to abuse his son. Spencer had just turned 20 and Tobias came home and came at him with a vengeance as he walked up to him while he was chopping wood for the fire. Mainly out of self-defense -and also out of sheer joy- he swung the ax into his skull and smiled as his dad fell to the ground. He took things he learned from his hunting trips and used that to fuel his skills to dispose of the body in a way that wouldn’t get him caught.

He has had issues with juvie in his past, only petty crimes -nothing too serious- so he’s never been in prison/ jail, and he never plans on going. It’s either never getting caught or he'll die before doing so. He has a plan he will complete if he ever is caught and has little to no time before being arrested, which will ultimately end his life.

Survivor 38 First Impressions: Kama Tribe

Hello all! This week, I’m wrapping up my first impressions of the 38 cast. Once again, I’m writing these as I go through the bios provided on CBS, as well as Josh Wigler’s preseason interviews off of RHAP. Next week is the big week!

Joe Anglim: 

I don’t know how Joe is gonna do this season. I think people know he’s a threat. This is his third time, and people know how he plays at this point. I think the smart thing for the rest of his tribe to do would be to knock him out right away. He’s been pegged as the golden boy for two seasons now, and probably will here too. I’m not sure how his ego is gonna hold up; I think he could get in his head, and he’ll try to take advantage of everyone on his tribe. It’ll probably be similar to a Malcolm situation; get knocked out early. I just don’t think it’s something he’ll be able to escape, no matter how much he changes his strategy. The only way he could do well is if his tribe fell for his magic. Prediction: Premerge.

Aubry Bracco: 

I think Aubry stands a good chance of going well. I think her character was super big during both of her other seasons, but not significant enough for people to remember her level of threat. I think that she’s gonna have a super good social game, as usual, and she’ll want to play with people as much as they’ll want to play with her. She could definitely make it far, so I’m excited to see her dynamic. I think she and Joe will go separate ways, and she’ll probably work with her tribe to try and get Joe out. That would be the smart thing to do, at least. I think she could do well, but I’m not sure if she’ll make it as far as she has in the past. She’ll definitely make the merge, though, I predict. Prediction: Merge

Victoria Baamonde: 

She’s super cute, she’s been a fan since she was 6. SHE MATCHED WITH COCHRAN ON TINDER. She reminds me of myself, she’s a legit fan! She said she’s most like Malcolm Freberg, but made into a joke instead of making it a basic answer, which I appreciate. She’s inspiring me to want to apply. She has a ton of personality: good personality! Lots of self awareness, she’s not annoying either. I think she’s going to do well, as long as she doesn’t come off as a threat. I think that could be the thing that gets her, if she comes off as super strong. I think she’s gonna be able to keep her strategy under wraps, even though she said she wants to be memorable. I hope that she keeps the memorability until after the merge. I also hope she doesn’t pick fights with anyone, or engage in fights. I could see that happening potentially, but I highly doubt it. I think she can do well. Prediction: Merge

Ron Clark: 

He kind of seems confused based on his bio! He describes himself as a “mean girl” and a “sore, sore, sore loser”. He also seems super quirky, based off of his hobbies. He’s also from the south. He’s a fifth grade teacher?! He teaches at a school named about himself. It’s Hogwarts themed. He’s seeming super friendly, actually now. I feel like he’s gonna come off as nice, and then succeed at being deceptive. He said he’s like Spencer, and I can see that. I can see him being like Mike White from 37. He did a lot of research in the specific dynamics of each challenge; he’s neurotic (just like everyone else). I’m getting a lot of mixed signals from him. Is he sweet, nice? Or is he an aggressive “mean girl”? I think, if he can pace himself in the game, he could make it to the merge. If he gets carried away and takes the role of leader, which I think he knows better than to do, that’d be his downfall. Prediction: Merge.

Julia Carter: 

She’s funny! I like her a lot. I think she’s gonna be super likeable. She says she’s like Jeremy, which is a little unoriginal, but if he’s actually like him, she’ll do well. I think she’s generally pretty happy, seems pretty positive, but not in an annoying way. I think she’s gonna be good at talking to people; she’ll probably be able to get into an alliance real fast, and make good connections. I can also see her being a little deceptive; I think that she’ll be able to be really strategic, and not mess it up with neuroticism. I hope she does well! I think she can make it far. Prediction: Final 6.

Eric Hafemann: 

Fan! He’s been applying for a while. He seems pretty casual, though. His interview is pretty boring. He seems very casual and low-key. He describes himself as like Tony, which I don’t think is accurate. He’s too chill. He’s losing me, I can’t really pay attention to what he’s saying. I think, while he comes off as boring in his interview, his casual demeanor will help him on the island. He’ll probably be super likeable, and become a threat. Hopefully he doesn’t shoot to be the leader, because I could see that being his downfall. I don’t think he will, though. Prediction: Merge

Aurora McCreary: 

I like her a lot! She’s got a fun personality, and she seems like she’s super self aware. She’s owning that she’s argumentative, and blunt I think. She’s gonna be a bit of a Corinne I think, she’s gonna be super straightforward, and be herself, which means she’s probably gonna be aggressive. I think she should have put Corinne down as player she was most like. She did describe herself as Tyson/Ciara though, and I think those are good picks for her based off of what she’s saying in her interview. She graduated early from college, she’s smart. She said her downfall will be if she gets emotionally involved; I think, if she aligns with Julie, it could create a Corinne/Dawn duplicate. I like her a lot, but I don’t think she’ll do well. I can see her making it to final 8 at the furthest. Prediction: Merge

Julie Rosenberg: 

She describes herself as “very neurotic”. That’s concerning! The fact that she’s a fan will do that for her. She says she’s like Cirie socially, but also says she’s like Dawn; It’s an interesting pick! Definitely not one people think of, so I think it must be telling for her personality. That also worries me. She’s got a good personality though, her interview is interesting to listen to. I think people could find her annoying, if her neuroticism combines with her “Dawn” elements. She could be in trouble in that circumstance, and unfortunately I think that’s very likely. I think she’s gonna try and make a big move to early, and panic about it. Prediction: Premerge.

Gavin Whitson: 

Declared himself a superfan! He said he’s most like Keith Nale; that’s an odd pic for sure, but a reach for the fans! He got married two days before flying out here?! He seems like a charismatic character for sure. He’s from Tennessee, and has a thick accent, which adds to his TV character. I hope he’s not impulsive! I don’t think he’ll be neurotic like the rest of the cast, I think he’ll be a pretty chill character who can make some good alliances. Maybe it’s the recency bias, but I think he could be a lesser Nick from 37. I think he’s gonna be super likeable, and probably make it far if he doesn’t make a random mistake early on. Prediction: Final 6

Mini Bio:

Nessa is the oldest out of all her siblings and for awhile she really enjoyed life as an only child. She was the apple of her moms’ eyes. Both Spencer and Paisley spoiled her and little Nessa thought that her world was ending when they sat her down and told her that her mum Paisley was pregnant. After she told them she refused to talk to them for days, she was only 3 but she had enough dramatic energy than her family knew what to do with. 

That wasn’t the only time that Nessa brought out her extreme dramatics. When she was 12 she found out there had been brief stint of time where here parents weren’t together due to her mami Spencer being a complete idiot. And while clearly her parents were okay and this all happened before she was even born she still refused to speak to Spencer for over a week. She only broke her silence when Spencer treated her to all of her favorite thing.

As the Miranda family grew Nessa became a little lost. She didn’t know where she fit in with them. All of her siblings were incredible and they seemed to have so much going for them and she was just Nessa. She was no longer the little princesa of the family and she really struggled with that.

Nessa really struggled with depression and anxiety throughout middle school and high school. She went to therapy regularly and took her medication but sometimes it felt like the weight of the world was on her shoulders. 

In high school there was this mentor program and she ended up being mentored by a speech language pathologist which is how she decided what she wanted to do with her life. She knew that she wasn’t cut out to be a doctor like her mum and being stuck in meetings all day like her mami seemed too boring for her, but being a SPL would give her a chance to still help people, not to mention that she was great with things.

Nessa worked hard to get her grades up to get into a good college and set herself up for success. She didn’t go far away from home for school, she couldn’t take the idea of missing out of family dinners. In the end it worked out well because she could call up her sister/best friend Monroe whenever she needed some sister time to cheer her up.

Now Nessa is with a small practice, sometimes the hours are long but she loves what she does and she wouldn’t change it for the world. 

She knows a lot of people judge her based on the fact she can be a bit of a princess and that she doesn’t always come off as the brightest bulb, but the people that matter know that she’s incredibly intelligent with a heart of gold. 

Nessa doesn’t know what she wants out of a romantic relationship. She doesn’t think she would ever find what her moms have but that doesn’t mean she’s a complete pessimist. Sometimes she thinks she might be too much for one person, at least that’s what her dating history has told her. Bottom line she just needs someone (or someones) who lets her be her lovely chaotic self and she has yet to find that.
